Maharashtra 2026

Figures as of 31 August 2026, when the draft roll was published. The final roll is due on 16 November 2026.

Overview

This page is in English only for now. Every figure on it comes from the Election Commission or the Chief Electoral Officer, and where it reached us through the press, the page says so.

    Find a constituency or district

An assembly constituency is the area that elects one member of the state assembly. Maharashtra has 288 of them in 36 districts. Type a constituency's name or number, or a district, and its figures appear below with a link you can send.

Each constituency is shaded by the names left off its draft roll for every 100 electors on its roll before the revision. The darkest lost the most. Tap a constituency for its figures. Boundaries drawn from DataMeet's assembly constituency map (CC BY 2.5 India), simplified.

    The roll, step by step

Before the draft, every elector on the roll was given an enumeration form, a short form to fill in and hand back to the official for the polling station. The draft roll is the list published once the forms were collected, and a name whose form did not come back was left off it. Maharashtra's draft came out on 31 August 2026. Electors can now ask to be added or object to names on it, and only after that comes the final roll. The bars start above zero so that the changes can be seen.

Maharashtra's dates, as they were set and as they were moved, are drawn beside every other state's on How the revision was run.

    Per 100 electors, by district

The names left off each district's draft roll, for every 100 electors on its roll before the revision. Counting per 100 electors puts large and small districts on one scale, so a rate of 20 means one elector in five was left off. The figures are from the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), who keeps the state's rolls for the Election Commission. Mumbai City, Mumbai Suburban, Thane, Palghar and Pune are in red, and the upright line marks the rate for the state as a whole.

Each dot is one constituency, in the row of its district, placed by the names left off per 100 on its roll before the revision. Hover or tap a dot for its name.

    The reasons

Every name left off carries one of five reasons in the CEO's tables of 1 September 2026. The elector had shifted for good, could not be traced or was absent, had died, was already enrolled at another place, or the form was not collected for some other reason. The tables give the five for every constituency and district, and they add up to the names left off exactly. A reason is what the officer wrote down, and nobody checked it.

Each dot is one constituency. Its place across is the names left off per 100 on its roll, and its height is the share of them entered as shifted or absent. Hover or tap a dot for its name.

    Mumbai and Pune

Mumbai City, Mumbai Suburban, Thane, Palghar and Pune are the five districts that hold the cities of Mumbai and Pune and the towns that have grown round them. Here they are set against the other 31 districts.

Each of the five districts' share of the state's roll before the revision, and its share of the names left off. Where the second dot sits to the right of the first, the district lost more than its share.

    Women

The CEO published the draft roll by sex for every constituency, and nothing else by sex. The roll before the revision and the names left off are given as totals only, so the names left off cannot be counted by sex. What can be shown is women's share of each district's draft roll. Each dot is one district, placed by how far its share sits above or below the state's. Hover or tap a dot for its name.

    Notices

An elector who stays on the draft roll can still be sent a notice to prove the entry, with documents, at a hearing. The CEO's release of 4 September 2026 counts them by district in two lists. One is of electors who could not be linked to the rolls of the last intensive revision, in 2002 to 2004, and the other is of entries with an anomaly, such as an age that does not fit a parent's. Each district's notices are counted here for every 100 electors on its draft roll.

    Against the 2024 margins

The winning margin is the winner's votes less the runner-up's at the Assembly election of November 2024, from the Election Commission's statistical report. Each dot is a constituency. Its place across is the margin, and its height is the names left off its draft roll. Above the dashed line, more names were left off than the seat was won by. That means the names left off were enough to decide the seat, and it says nothing about whether they would have.
