Cities

This page is in English only. Every figure on it comes from the state pages, which link each table to its source.

    Each city against its state

Names left off the draft roll for every 100 electors on the roll before the revision, in the city and in its state as a whole. A city here is the districts named in the last section, because no state published its figures by city boundary.

The city and its state, per 100 electors

The city's share of the roll and of the names left off

Each city's share of its state's roll before the revision, beside its share of the state's names left off. Where the red dot sits to the right of the grey one, the city lost more than its weight in the state.

The city's share of its state's roll and of its names left off, per cent

The core, the suburbs and the rest of the state

The core is the city's own districts. The suburbs are the neighbouring districts its growth has spread into. The rest of the state is everything else. Delhi's suburbs on this page are Ghaziabad and Gautam Buddha Nagar, measured on Uttar Pradesh's revision. Gurugram and Faridabad are in Haryana, which this site has no district figures for.

What was written against the names

Where a state published the reasons by district, the share of the city's names left off that were entered as shifted or absent, and the share entered as dead. A reason is what the officer wrote down, and nobody checked it.

Shares of each city's names left off entered as shifted or absent, and as dead, per cent

The lists cannot say which of two different things a high "shifted or absent" share means. It can mean people who had moved and were also registered somewhere else, such as a home village, and were rightly taken off one roll. It can equally mean people who still live in the city and were not at home when the officer called. The count is the same either way, so this page does not say which it is.

    Kolkata and Kochi

West Bengal and Kerala published no names left off below the state. What they published by district is the roll itself, so for these two cities the measure is the fall in the roll. In West Bengal that is the fall from the 2024 Lok Sabha roll to the draft, and in Kerala the fall from the roll of January 2025 to the draft. That fall takes in ordinary deaths and moves over more than a year as well as the revision, so it is a different count from the others on this page and is never ranked with them.

    How each city is drawn

Hyderabad's district figures are the state's as reported in the press, on the Telangana page. Uttar Pradesh's are the Chief Electoral Officer's table as published in the press, and Gujarat's the Chief Electoral Officer's printouts as published in the press. The table behind this page downloads as CSV.
