The roll as a share of projected adults, at three points
Electors on the roll before the revision, on the draft and on the final roll, each as a share of the adults the Technical Group on Population Projections (July 2020) expected in the state in 2026. A state with no final roll yet has two dots. The line at 100 is a roll as large as the adult population.
How much of what the draft lost came back
The rise in the roll from the draft to the final roll, as a share of the names left off the draft, in each state with a final roll. It is a ceiling: the rise counts new voters who were never on the roll as well as people who were added back.
What these comparisons can show
A projection counts the people who live in a state, so a migrant counts where they live and the roll counts them where they are enrolled. A roll above 100 per cent of projected adults holds names of people who have died, moved or been entered twice. A roll below it can mean adults who were never enrolled as well as names wrongly left off, and the rolls cannot separate the two. The projections are those of July 2020 and carry their own error.
The figures come from the state table, which the Numbers page and the All India workbook also carry. The reading page sets the published arguments about these ratios beside them.
